Dear Cordovans,

Like all do-good organizations functioning under a 501©3 classification, we have very limited funds for such things as paper, postage and other bare necessities. As your newly elected officers approach what shapes up to another eventful year, we ask that you please make the year easier by paying your $10 dues.

What is now the Guide Meridian/Cordata Neighborhood (soon to be Cordata) is Bellingham’s fastest growing one of 24. That growth has produced challenges to a community largely forgotten until your association came into being in 2005. There are a number of ways we can confront those challenges.

You can play a major role in neighborly solutions that will make Cordata an even better place. Your board of directors wants to increase its membership by bringing on board leadership to deal with such problems a as traffic and transportation, current and future developments, architecture, and the total lack of appropriate places for children to play. Without developed parks, i.e., Cordata Park, children are being forced to ad-lib with streets a dangerous choice.

In addition to money and board work, there are other ways in which you can help. One is to post general meeting announcements on bulletin boards. Then, too, you can bring a neighbor to the February 9 meeting at Birchwood Presbyterian Church; perhaps the sheer momentum of the meeting will inspire the two of you to get involved.

Most of us have more time than ever. Please come to the meeting and get involved.
